Seen this movie in DVD and then on TV lately and it still captivates in me the sacrifice of Danny Archer(played by Leonardo DiCaprio).
The story revolves around a diamond found by Solomon Vandy(played by Djimon Hounsou)while he was held captive in a war torn Sierra Leone in 1996. Archer, a diamond smuggler, hopes to get what Vandy has found but was left in the RUF mine camp. In order for Archer to get it back he uses a cover as a journalist by asking Maddy Bowen(Jennifer Connelly)to bring them to the site in exchange of giving her information regarding the diamond trade of war torn countries term "Blood Diamond".
The struggle of identity brought out by the war and the harsh life of Archer made him want the Diamond and hoping to leave such life and have a better life through this last trade, the last diamond. In Vandy and Archer's escape, Archer got shot. In the end Archer let go of that dream of becoming free from the Africa, that is to be free from the war torn life that he has by giving the very thing he wants to Vandy. Vandy continued the plan with Maddy to expose the trade of Blood Diamond and standing up to unite his family broken by war and leaving what Archer could have had.
