Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Watched the movie yesterday and it was good. For the adventure and the swashbuckling followers this movie is a good one but if you are more on the story side I would say that it is simple same story of family rivalry and power grabbing.

The story revolves about The Dagger of Time that turns back time. It enables the holder to go back a few minutes in time thus enabling one to change that moment to one's advantage. The story is set on the reign of King Sharaman of Peria during the 6th century. The main character, Prince Dastan(played by Jake Gyllenhaal) was an orphaned boy that was adopted by King Sharaman after an incident in the market place. Dastan's courage to defend a friend against the King's guards impress the king and it ended up Dastan being adopted by the King making him Prince of Persia with "no royal blood and no eye for the throne."

After the short introduction, the movie starts with Prince Tus, the next heir to the throne, Prince Garsiv and Nizam(the kings brother and adviser) on the way to Alamut, a known Holy city, to conquer it due to the reports of the city supplying arms to Persia's enemies. The king's commands was not to harm Alamut because it is holy and neutral city. Tus asks his brother and Nizam if they should attack but awaits what Prince Dastan's opinion. Dastan grew up to be a courageous man and led a group in the Persian army. Dastan reminded Tus of their father's command and he said that the weapons might be planted but in the end the advice from Garsiv and Nizam prevailed. Dastan requested that he lead the first attack then but was told that he was too young for this. The attack was to be made at dawn.

Hard headed as he is, Dastan went to do a backdoor attack on the city by entering it before dawn. Together with Bis and his friends they were able to enter and open one of the city's gates, signaled it to Tus and Garsiv's men and entered the city without much damage. Meanwhile the head of Alamut, Princess Tamina(played by Gemma Artenton), prayed to the Gods. In there last resort Tamina ordered one of Alamut's guard to bring to safety Alamut's Dagger of Time. The guard was accidentally killed by Dastan and was able to get hold of the dagger. The news reached the king but the king was furious of what Tus did. The king goes to Alamut and ask Tus to give him evidence of Alamut's treachery.

Tus busied himself looking for the weapons and ask favor from Dastan present to the king Alamut's praying shroud. The king announce that the proposed marriage of Princess Tamina to Tus to unite their empires was not to push through but instead Princess Tamina will be wed to Dastan. Dastan was taken aback and was speechless for sometime. To interrupt the scene Dastan presented the praying shroud to the king but upon wearing it the king was burned and killed. Dastan doesn't know why and he was accused of killing the king. He ran to save himself and he ended up running with Princess Tamina. From there the story brings you to the adventure and the twist of the movie.

The movie also mentions about destiny being a connection between two time periods. But in the end as the story goes destiny is what we chose it to be rather than something that one must follow even if it means losing someone that you love. Destiny is a choice that only  you and me can make.

Robin Hood

As a birthday present to myself last Sunday, I went to see Russell Crowe's movie Robin Hood.

The story did start with the the story that we all know. This movie traces back the reason why Robin Hood became an outlaw and started dwelling in the deep forest of Nottingham. Robin Longstride(Russell Crowe) was an archer in King Richard the Lionheart's army. A tragic event happened when Richard was killed in battle and Robert Locskley, one of the king's knight, was task to bring back the crown to England and to bring the bad news.

Meanwhile in England, John who is next in line is preparing himself to be the king of England and enjoying his life with a French girl. One of his men,Godfrey, was traitor working with Philip, King of France. Godfrey intercepted Robert in his mission to bring back the crown when Robin Longstride with his companions were on there way to go back home. Robert was killed by Godfrey and Robin and his men drove them away. Robert ask Robin to promise him to bring back his sword to his father in Nottingham. Upon knowing the mission of Robert, Robin dress themselves as knights and went to bring the king's crown and bring the good news. With that John becomes king of England.

The first problem John has to solve is England's rising financial problem and thus the need to enforce tax collection. John assigns the traitor Godfrey to do such work. But Godfrey on the other hand has a different mission. He went to the northern part of England acting in the name of the king forcing people and villages to pay up their taxes at the same time arrange the first batch of French soldiers to prepare for Philip's arrival.

Robin went to Nottingham to fulfill a dead man's wish. But in the process he learn of his true linage that his father was a mason who was killed because of his beliefs that the king of England needs its subject not the other way around. And the sword that he was to bring back to Robert's father was actually his father's own sword. A line was inscribed in the sword saying "Rise, rise again until lambs turn into lions" which means to never give up. John was finally informed of Godfrey's betrayal and the other barons are now working together to overthrow the king. In the end Robin ask if he could speak and brought the same philosophy his father was trying to ask years back, that is to every English man to have liberty by law. John agreed in order to defeat the French with a united England but right after the victory John did not keep his promise.

Thus Robin Hood was declared an outlaw. Together with his comrades and the orphan children they retreated to the forest and as the legend says they rob the rich and gave it to the poor.

Grey's Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy has proven an unlikely success. While medical dramas are one of Tv's best bets in the formula department, Grey's Anatomy seemed from the beginning a pale and banal iteration of the formula. A cast that seemed cut from the fashion section of an old Sears catalogue, and stories filled with hyperbolic doctors screaming codes and demanding many cc's of mysterious substances. Oh, and lots of that 'paddle' thing as well. But it wasn't long before the serious caught on, and for good reason, the writing is, at its core, very story motivated, and behind those pretty faces are solid actors that emote as well they vogue.

After achieving success at such a fast speed, however, it is a questionable move the series is making trying for a spinoff. First, they are planning on extracting one of their favored characters from the shows dramatic dynamic, Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery (played brilliantly by Kate Walsh.) This will no doubt leave a huge hole in the dramatic fabric of the show. Next, in setting up the spin off, they are in a sense using the opposite formula. Instead of filling the cast with talented 'barely knowns', they are padding out Walsh with a host of well know actors including Tim Daly, Chris Lowell, and Taye Diggs.

Probably the biggest risk involved in this endeavor is the impact on Grey's Anatomy itself. Were the spin off to fail, simply shifting Walsh back to Grey's Anatomy might not be such an easy task. Walsh has been so central to the dramatic balance of Grey's Anatomy that the writers will surely have to accommodate for her absence by creating a new equilibrium on the show. This could, in fact, throw Grey's Anatomy off as well. Enough that the show itself could suffer and eventually fail.

It is impossible to say whether any of this will happen, but one thing seems for sure. Year three of Grey's Anatomy seems to be just too soon to have a Spin Off.

The Twilight Saga - Eclipse the Movie - A Choice Between Vampire and Werewolf

If you enjoy watching movies, you must be familiar with The Twilight Saga. The Twilight Saga movies are adaptations of the books written by Stephanie Meyer in the same titles. The first movie, Twilight, was reaching its success in 2008. Furthermore, the second movie, New Moon, was also following the success of the first movie in 2009. In the middle of this year, Summit Entertainment will bring Eclipse as the third movie for all fans of the Twilight Saga in throughout the world.

In this third movie, you will find that a new Victoria. In the previous two movies, the character of Victoria is played by actress Rachelle Lefevre. The new Victoria in Eclipse will be Bryce Dallas Howard, an actress that born in Chicago on March 2, 1981. She was starring in some movies such as The Village (2004), As You Like It (2006) and Lady in the Water (2006). Besides, she was also replacing Nicole Kidman in Manderlay (2005).

Some interesting things also happen during the making of this third movie. Jackson Rathbone, the actor who plays Jasper Cullen, accidentally lost his script one day, and suddenly that script got leaked on to the Internet. However, people do not need to read this script to know what will happen in the movie. People know everything about the plot clearly from the book.

Surely, Eclipse is a continuance for the previous two movies. However, the focus now is about some choices should be taken by Bella. Mysterious killings are happening in Seattle that makes the condition worse. Meanwhile, Bella once again should face dangerous situation resulted from the effort of Victoria to kill her. Bella also still have to make a choice between Edward and Jacob means that she has to choose between love and friendship. Besides, Bella also need to make a decision while her graduation is quickly approaching, namely choosing her death or life.

If you are movie lover or even a fan of The Twilight Saga, you can enjoy this movie in the middle of the year. This movie will be released in United States on 30 June 2010. While waiting for the movie, I think you can read the book first to make you know better about the movie.

Repo Men

Was able to see the trailer of Repo Men. Basically the story is about a man who wants to be out of what he is doing because he has turned into the very person he is after.

The future has become a time where life could actually be extended by having body parts that are made possible by the advances of science. Artificial heart, kidney, lungs, and any part that you need are made in factory. Yes it will make you alive but it will not only break your bank but also end your life.

A company, The Union, has monopolized the business and when one has defaulted on his or her payments they sent the Repo Men, short for repossession men. These parts have become like the ordinary car or house that you buy that when not paid on time a legal action of repossession can be implemented even at the risk of one’s life.

The lead actor played by Jude Law is a Repo Men. He and his partner,Forest Withaker, are skilled in the business of taking back what the company owns. Until one time Jude law suffers from a heart attack and wakes up that his heart was replaced by the company. He now owes his life to the company. But as he returns to his work as Repo man it seems that he cannot do his job anymore, his heart was not into it anymore. He wants to get out of the business but because the heart that keeps him alive is of the company he is now hunted by his very partner(as per the trailer, not sure about this).

The movie will be shown this coming Friday. Let’s us see how will end or fare. The ending seems that he will escape it and lead a run and hide life or will he shut down the company that hunts those that owe it for the body parts.

Green Zone: My personal review(for those who haven't watch it yet dont read this spoiler)

Today I finally watch Green Zone.

The movie as usual truly is an action pack one with the performance of Matt Damn as Chief Roy Miller. His mission was to locate Saddam's WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) which was known from a source called Magellan. The repeated failed missions made him realize something is wrong with the intelligence that he and his men are getting. They have searched premises of the alleged storage sites and all were just bunch of old warehouse. He has brought up the matter to his superiors but was brush off because at that time they US were publicizing that they have won the war in Iraq.

The remaining army of Saddam has stayed and secretly holding meetings to possibly re-establish Iraq by either accepting cooperation with the US or by fighting and keeping the resistance. One of Saddam’s top general, Al Rawi, was spotted by Freddie (Khalid Abdalla) in a house where the remaining loyal armies of Saddam are holding meeting and reported it to Miller’s team. Miller decided to trust this information because of the false intels he has been getting and eventually have a lead in what is really happening. In their raid, Miller got a hold of a notebook which contains secret hideouts and whereabouts of the remaining top generals lead by Al Rawi. Miller was able to get a hold of one of the people in the secret meeting and was about to get information but was suddenly interrupted when a group of helicopters swoop in and took the men Miller has. They insisted on having the notebook but Miller secretly passes it to Freddie.

The incident led Miller to contact CIA operative Martin. Miller gave the notebook to Martin and told him about the men some soldiers took which he believed will give valuable information about Al Rawi. In the same time Miller was spotted by Lawrie Dayne, a WSJ journalist that wrote about a secret source Magellan.
In the end Miller finally found out the Al Rawi was Magellan and that the information that he was getting was actually false. In his face to face talk with Al Rawi, He found out that Al Rawi talked to US officials in Jordan regarding the WMD and Al Rawi told them that all WMD were destroyed. But to justify the war in Iraq a false lead was leak to Lawrie Dayne and eventually the world thought that there a still WMD in Iraq. Finally Al Rawi was killed by Freddie. Miller confronted Poundstone regarding what he did to make the world believe of the WMD in Iraq.

The movie ended with Lawrie Dayne receiving an email from Miller stating to make things right. And what is attached is a document proving the false reports about WMD and the actual leak out information by Magellan. The same email was sent to other publications to spread the truth about WMD.

The movie is a classic rub-out operations just like the stories that we hear or see in the news. The movie was rated R due to the action and graphic content. The way the film was made is as if you were there but not 3D. During the chase and the  action scenes, the camera is moving with the actors thus it is kinda hard to focus. Story line is great and that the location truly represent that of Iraq.

The movie was based on a novel. The validity of the story should not be taken as true or fact but rather one should research about the truth about the said WMD.

The Book of Eli

I know this review is quite late but I just wanna share my insights about the movie.

The Book of Eli revolves around the importance of a book which the surviving inhabitants of Earth after a great tragedy is fighting for. In the future times where rights and respect are forgone and the land has been desolate that food and water is the most important thing, the book is seen as a weapon of control. The book that is the center of the movie is the Holy Bible. Religion is seen as a weapon of getting people with no hope to hope in the person who possess the Bible.

Green Zone

If you are a fan of the Bourne Trilogy you will surely love Matt Damon's new movie Green Zone. Set in Iraq, the movie revolves around a US soldier finding the truth.
